Wild Weed Fall Herb Walk with Mo Katz-Christy

  • George the Giraffe & Big Poppy Community Path, Cedar St Somerville, MA 02144 (map)

Let's welcome fall by exploring the wonder of wild weeds! Join clinical herbalist Mo Katz-Christy for a stroll along the Community Path to learn about the medicine, botany, and magic of medicinal herbs. We will ask, what does it mean to look towards our local plants for medicine, especially when our soils are contaminated and invasive plants abound? What does it mean for a plant to be a "weed", and where do humans belong in relationship to our ecosystem? We will discuss the bounty of medicinal plants in Somerville and their specific indications and properties.

Bring a notebook and get ready to scribble fast as we delight in the bounty of our neighborhood!

Sliding Scale Guide ($15–$35):

  • $35 (Top of the Scale): You can comfortably meet your basic needs, have steady income, and may have expendable funds for savings, travel, or non-essentials. Paying at this level helps sustain access for others.

  • $25 (Middle of the Scale): You can usually meet your basic needs but may feel occasional financial stress. You have some expendable income and may buy new items or take occasional time off.

  • $15 (Bottom of the Scale): Meeting basic needs is often a source of stress, and you have little to no expendable income. Paying at this level makes the class more accessible.

Choosing your spot on the scale is an act of community care - those who can contribute more help make it possible for others to participate.

Mo Katz-Christy (they/them) is a queer Ashkenazi Jewish herbalist born and raised in Cambridge, MA on unceded Massachusett land. They approach herbalism by connecting folks to the knowledge they already have about their body and herbs through working with kitchen medicine, ancestral traditions, and mulberries falling on the sidewalk!

Mo graduated from a three-year clinical herbalism program at the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism in 2022. They work one-on-one with clients to address the root imbalances that are causing dysregulation and to promote long-term healing. You can find out more about their work at mokatzchristy.com
